encore

going back to practice a song is harder than learning it from scratch :/ because you know perfectly well how it should sound like, and you are familiar with all the fingerings and notes and dynamics and what not, but after this extended period of not playing it, you just can't get your fingers to listen to you and your hands to coordinate themselves. which is what is happening to my mendelssohn right now. sigh, serves me right for not practicing for so long, i guess.

"vamp till cue: a jazz, fusion, and musical theatre term which instructs rhythm section members to repeat and vary a short ostinato passage, riff, or "groove" until the band leader or conductor instructs them to move onto the next section" - from wiki, haha.

random, i know. haha i found it while i was trying to search for another title for this post, because i think i used 'recapitulation' before and i couldn't come up with anything better. well, i guess encore doesn't really suit either, but i can't find anything else that fits. anyway, so i was looking at wiki's list of musical terms, and i think this sounds pretty interesting. i mean, repeating an ostinato passage is all very well. but imagine just umm, "groove[ing]" until you are instructed to move on. haha.

on another note, i went to try random songs on the harp yesterday (: yay playing by ear is fun. so is improvising (haha i am reminded of mamma mia. now that was really awesome fun :P) but unfortunately i can only play certain kinds of songs. sigh. at least that range is expanding recently, but it's still quite limited. :/ there's this person on youtube who played e zuo ju by ear (or so he/she says) and it's pretty good. i mean, there are wrong notes and all, but most of it was there, down to the inversions and all (which i should be able to identify but somehow i inevitably end up lumping everything in one chord so the inversion all gets messed up. ><) ahhhh hahaha i am envious; i want such awesome listening skills too. ><

oh i've decided i shall end my posts with a chain of numbers. haha. let's see if they can make sense to anybody. haha. space bars are poor substitutes, i know, but they're the best alternative i can come up with...today shall be an easy one, even though it's not the one on my mind right now. haha. (:
